The weather was very nice for riding. There were quite a few Rolling hills and quite a bit of traffic but we kept safe.
We had calculated the ride to be 52 miles--so we were disappointed when it was further. All of the restaurants are 2 miles uphill from our bed and breakfast so we are settling for the deli at the local gas station. Menu: Fried chicken, fried fish, potato salad, coleslaw, red beans & rice, dinner rolls.
This is a historic town. The courthouse below was built in 1840 and is still used.
We are staying at a B & B built in 1902. It is a huge house and we are the only guests so the entire house is ours. The owners live 5 miles away. Tomorrow we expect to have a shorter day to New Roads.

Those extra 8 miles could surely be a disappointment! At first I thought your B & B was the courthouse-looking building! Ha. From grits/sugar shack to deli/fried chicken. One thing about it. . .you don't often repeat a day's menu! I have to agree with Ron--I find grits quite tasteless. Glad you are keeping safe. Enjoy your shorter ride tomorrow.
Oh, one more thing: re the above-ground caskets. . .perhaps the water table to too low to safely dig graves. When we were on the Marshall Islands, it was common to see caskets in every front lawn.
Eating at a gas station wow! It sounds sort of good I guess I would just think everything had a gasoline flavor. The above ground cemetery is really interesting and weird looking. Fran is probably right though about the water table and I don't even want to think about that! You are really seeing some history as you ride with the old building and such.
How about this for your next trip? http://www.goodshomedesign.com/bicycle-micro-camper/
