The morning started cool and foggy. We stopped at 10 miles for $3.99 breakfast at a casino. Then in Crescent City we stopped at another casino because we had $20 free play coupons. Ron walked out with $124! He was a happy man. We got a sandwich "to go" for our future energy needs.
If you have driven 101 you probably remember the hill south of Crescent City. If you bicycle the route you definitely remember! It is at least a 5 mile incline that requires a grinding low speed of 3 or 4 mph. Most of it had a good shoulder. Sometimes an entire lane was closed for construction and we could.use that space. We warmed up with the climb and gradually were down to shorts and jerseys. When we hit the descent we almost froze and quickly bundled up again.
We are staying in a motel in Klamath (the only one but it is surprisingly nice) on Ron's winnings. Tomorrow we hope to reach Eureka.
