We were on the road before 7 am. Ron wanted to get out of Chester and not look back. That was one hotel that needs more than alot of TLC.
We stopped in a small town, Gildford, to get some food at the store (no cafe in the town). The woman running the store told us we were the first cyclists of the season. She treated us to a free ice cream. During the summer th Poe cyclists are frequent.
We had a tailwind most of the day so we arrived here about 1pm. We are staying in the dorm at Montana State University~Northern. They rent rooms to cyclists. We will stay 2 nights so we can rest tomorrow. We made a grocery run (there is a full kitchen for us to use) and the laundry is down the hall.
There is one other couple staying here. They are biking Maryland to Seattle. They have shipped their household things and will be living in Seattle. Up to now we have only talked with three other touring cyclists on this trip. One was going New Hampshire to Anchorage, he said one day with tailwind he went 144 miles! One was Colorado to Seattle, he had come through Yellowstone with several inches of snow on the road. The other was riding Florence, OR to Missoula.
When we leave Monday our destination will be probably Ft Belknap.

How exciting to meet up with others going on a cycling journey. I guess you passed along the info on Chester and will be sending that hotel name to the Travel Channels Hotel Impossible show right Ron? Free ice cream now this is sounding worth the trip though 60 miles and for sure a 114 miles that sounds like a lot. We will pray for a tailwind for you on Monday along with safety and good sleeping and food options ahead. In Google searching Havre I found a blog of others who have ridden part of your route and posted photos too!!!! Still living your adventure vicariously.
Hello,
My name is Kathy Jaynes and I work at MSU-Northern. Some of the cyclists have been concerned about the cleanliness of our dorm rooms and received refunds. Did you receive a refund directly or was the $10 per night fee slipped under your dorm room door?
Thanks for your reply,
Kathy Jaynes
